3M Scotch 4298 Adhesion Promoter (Sponge Applicator Packet): 2.5cc sponge applicator (Straw)
3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter is a liquid primer used for most low surfaces energy plastics. This would include common low surface energy plastics used for automotive dash and interior trim applications (TPO, PPO, PP, PC, PC and ABS, etc.). It is specifically formulated to be used with 3M Acrylic Foam Tapes. Since formulations and surface energies can vary for these types of materials, each application should be verified through testing. This adhesion promoter is supplied in an easy-to-use sponge applicator packet. 3M 4298 Application Procedure: the liquid contents of the packet should be completely used as soon as possible after opening. Hold packet upright and avoid squeezing an opened packet to prevent spillage of liquid contents. The packet can be opened by tearing across the top of the packet at the notches. This will expose the sponge applicator. Do not remove the sponge or squeeze a freshly opened packet. Handling the bottom section of the packet should enable application of 3M adhesion promoter 4298 with no mess. Apply a thin, uniform coating to the bonding surface, using the minimum amount that will fully coat the surface. A wet coating thickness of 0.002 inch or less is recommended. Apply promoter only to areas that will be fully covered with tape. Although drying times may vary due to temperature and/or humidity, a drying time of 30 to 90 seconds is typically indicative of this thickness. The primer should be dry before applying tape. For best results, apply tape immediately after primer application or no more than one hour afterwards. Be sure the primed surface remains free from contaminants prior to tape application.
Drying Time: 30 to 90 seconds
Flashpoint:: -20°C (-4°F)
Coverage: Approximately 150 square inch per packet

Not as advertised and very clostly for what you get.Jul 17, 2013

The packet is the size of a hand cleaner from a restaurant. Very costly for what it is.
Perhaps I failed to understand the specifications from 3M.

Works as intended, but...Sep 20, 2013
I kind of wish this was a tad bit bigger. It's pretty durable and does not tear easily, but it's really small and the way it's packaged it kinda has a "one time use" appeal to it. FYI, toss whatever you don't use in a sealed ziplock or sandwich bag and you can preserve it for even longer.

Great thing to have if you are prepping for automotive body parts. I was replacing a side skirt on my car that had sagged, after I cleaned the area I wiped up and down the sills of the driver side with *2* of these (keep in mind the size!).
The 3M sticky tape I used held very well after letting it "cure" for 24 hours against pressure.
This promoter is not cheap and you have to get a lot of it for larger jobs, but it works very well and you will only have to do what you are doing once. Yeah, I could have skipped using this and just applied the adhesive after a good clean, but I would probably have to repair it again in a few years.
Now I won't.

worked for me.Jan 17, 2014

Apply as directed and body side molding is still attached to my truck. Just as side note, I did use acetone and letting it dry before applying.

it was a pretty small applicator and the sponge fell apart after a little use. It did work for the five foot x one inch trim area I was working with, but just barely. If I had to do both sides of the car, I would have needed more. Cost seemed high for what little I got. I can only assume it improved the quality of the adhesive bond, but how can I tell? The bond of the attaching tape did seem excellent. This was my first time using it. It's held on fine for one month.
